Orthodontics: linking function and dental aesthetics

A good occlusion (way of biting) and well-aligned teeth are important at all stages of life, and allow us to perform oral functions properly, such as eating, speaking or smiling.

Orthodontics is the specialty of Dentistry that treats malocclusions to ensure that dental function and aesthetics are correct when there is an alteration.

During childhood, Orthodontic treatments make it possible to intercept malocclusions, correct maxillary growth disorders, such as a narrow palate or a cross bite, and correct problems in the eruption of teeth, such as included teeth or alterations in the path of eruption.

The sooner the treatment of a malocclusion is carried out, the more correct orofacial growth will be favored, a good eruption of the permanent teeth, and that the functions and aesthetics of the mouth are harmonic. Therefore, it is advisable to have the first check-up by the orthodontist when the first permanent teeth erupt, around 6-7 years of age.

In adolescents and adults, Orthodontic treatments are also performed to correct malocclusions and misalignment of the teeth, using fixed appliances (metallic or aesthetic brackets) or the current Invisible Orthodontics that allow the patient to enjoy greater comfort.
